Failure or Success?     

What do you expect in life, good things or bad? Do you expect that you will be the one who will come last in a race, or people will not like you, or perhaps you might think your not up to a particular job, and you look at people from afar, just wishing that you could be like him or her, but believing deep down that it is just not going to happen. If you have thoughts like this, or other regular negative thought patterns, you are sabotaging yourself from achieving those things you want to achieve.

Just for a few moments, I want you to think about sucking a lemon, yes just think about it, and as you do, notice what happens. Most readers will notice their mouth starting to water. Just by thinking about sucking the lemon, your body responds in this obvious way. So doesn’t it make sense that when you think about something, anything, you body responds?   Perhaps not always in such an obvious way, but regular readers will know I have said many times, “for each thought there is a physical response”.

So what do you think happens when we have negative thoughts such as, “I can’t do this” or “I wish I could do that” and even “I’m not worthy of X Y or Z”. Of course you know that your body and mind respond in such a way that prevents you from even getting off the starting blocks.

If you do nothing more today, make sure you remember this: “you can achieve those things you want to achieve”. However you have to want it enough. You have to be prepare to work for whatever it is you want to achieve.  The many people I see have made their choices. They have either decided they want to be able to feel better, have more confidence, be slimmer, some want to learn to drive, others want to face their fears, others want internal harmony, some want to get rid of guilt, or blame. Others want to be more confident in business or in life generally, others want mentoring, some just want to talk, and others have goals and aspirations, and lots more beside.

However all the people who come to talk to me have a few things in common. Each one has decided they need to help themselves to think or feel better. Each of them has made that big decision and realised that they are capable of doing and being more. Even at this stage some almost scare themselves out of coming to see me, just for a chat, as they are not sure what to expect, and I am pleased that they realise after meeting me that those fears were unfounded.  How easy it would have been for them, not to phone for that initial appointment, and put it off for another day!  However for us all, the days come and go and we can only compare ourselves to ourselves, not to other people. If we are a better person today than we were yesterday, then we have done well, that’s progress. So next time you decide to put something off, remember the “lemon effect” remember not to put off tomorrow what you can do today ~ because you might find you enjoy it!
