Cancer Survivor CD for emotional recovery

Program Background

After a chance meeting with a Breast Cancer survivor at his practice, Michael decided emotional recovery was an area in which he wanted to contribute.

He looked at the support that was available which ranged from family support of the individual, counselling after surgery / treatment to support groups & information leaflets. All these methods of support certainly provide benefits to the breast cancer patient, and the CD ‘An aid to Emotional Recovery After Breast Cancer©, supports all the above methods, but it also brings something new to the field. It brings clear understanding of the emotional effects of the condition from Diagnosis to Treatment, and a way to understand why such feelings are present.

Michael initially developed his therapy processes through research conducted with two groups of breast cancer survivors who all presented with post-traumatic issues as a result of breast cancer.

The CD took a little under 2 years to produce, using the experience gained over a period of more than 5 years.

The newly developed CD was then given to another group of breast cancer survivors who followed a 45 day listening schedule using Mike’s OPSIM® method of structuring sessions. Results from bi-monthly feedback showed all patients recorded beneficial feedback in Quality Of Life, relations with significant other, and mood. Twelve patients offered additional information including enhanced future perspectives, improved sleep, reduced free floating anxiety, reduced vulnerability and appreciation of their own self help involvement.

In July 2005 Michael won the Innovation and Research Award 2005 for his work and development of An aid to Emotional Recovery After Breast Cancer© program at the prestigious Warrington Business Awards.

Program Content

An Aid to Emotional Recovery after Breast Cancer CD© has a clear introduction and simplified explanation of the mind body connection.

Track 1: The introduction explains in clear, easy to understand language, why emotional recovery lags behind the physical recovery. This explanation, while simplified, is highly informative, allowing the listener to realise that their emotional experiences are often commonplace for individuals who have been through the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. This important track paves the way for the following three tracks.
The introduction is also useful as an aid for carers and loved ones to understand what the individual has been through emotionally and so will help them to understand the emotional aspects too.

Track 2: Designed to help the listener to relax, or re-learn to relax and to release negative thoughts and feelings, including the fears and feelings of being overwhelmed which are so often experienced in breast cancer patients. This track uses gentle imagery and guidance to not only release negative thought patterns and fears, but also encourages the listener to recognise their inner strengths, resources, talents, gifts and skills. This positively encourages the listener to once again take control and to build new positive thought patterns.

Track 3: Continues the process started in track 2, encouraging the listener to build on their inner strengths and learnings, and to aid positive outlooks on life, and new perspectives. This positive encouragement can help in the individuals’ self-transformation.

Track 4: A short track of ambient music, without imagery or voice over, which can be used by the listener as background music to enjoy, developing their own relaxation methods and other processes learned from the previous tracks.

This recording provides over 72 minutes of guidance and relaxation. This recording also uses the Rainbow session from Chronic Pain 110© recording and excerpts from the Stress Awareness© CD.

Recordings:

All recorded hypnotherapeutic programs are produced and recorded in professional studios, digitally mastered and contain original music compositions especially written for the CD. All recordings unless stated, use Michael’s gentle spoken word, in his exact yet kindly style of delivery, coupled with music to enhance the mood of the recording. All of Michael’s recordings are developed this way, replicating the clinical sessions and bringing the listener the same quality and professionalism as Michael delivers in his busy practice and clinical setting.
